So, if you’ve been following my stories of the travels in Bulgaria, you would know some of the stories of the first night in the gorgeous city of Veliko Tûrnovo. We stayed at a very beautiful hotel called Grand Hotel Yantra. We had the privilege of having the view to the beautiful Tsarevets castle. Upon arrival in Viti, we immediately went to look at the house we now call home. A’s company works with realtors called SelectBG, who helped us in many ways – they’re not just realtors but they help you with other things as well. They helped us get this house and translate the things the owner was explaining to us. It was a no-brainer we were going to take the house.
After the tour, we checked-in at the hotel. We freshened up and went to eat at Ego. On the Friday evening, we went for a walk around town, eager to get to know it. The next morning, we went to SelectBG to sign the contract and get the keys so we could move in. Bulgarians do not hurry nor stress about whether they’re on time or not. We were so exhausted from the couple of days that we just went to get some groceries and bed stuff, after all was done we just stayed in and relaxed.
Anyways, let the pictures show you…

So, in my previous post, I showed you my first glimpse of Bulgaria. I didn’t have the chance to take too many pictures while we were in Sofia but I still took a few, and here are the best photos;

We stayed in a beautiful hotel, Hotel Kabu, which I would recommend for anyone to stay at if you don’t have a place to stay in Sofia. Right next to the hotel, there is a very nice restaurant, Happy Bar & Grill, which has very nice food and excellent atmosphere. It was really sweet to unwind at this restaurant! The last picture is from the hotel, I thought it looked neat what they had on the wall.. and yes, I am a geek so of course I had to take a picture of that!

Are you ready for the photo updates? So far, I’ve been telling my story of here in Bulgaria. Now, it is time for me to show what it has been like here. But only, if you’re ready. I have a whole bunch of pictures I want to share with you!

This was my first glimpse of the beautiful country of Bulgaria. The plain trip seemed to take for a very long time. Luckily, I was able to sleep a little bit as I was just so tired! Staying up all night takes a bigger toll on me than I had expected! Little did I know that after landing, it would continue to be… bit of a nightmare. I didn’t have any way of contacting A and he did not land when he was supposed to. I had no idea what was going on. Until later, I found out he had booked another flight, in the same afternoon. As I was waiting for him at the airport the second time, he wasn’t showing up. All kinds of thoughts came running through my mind. Until about an hour after the landing – there he is, as exhausted as ever! I will never forget this story, or the night at the airport!

It seems that time really travels fast! I can’t believe it’s already been a week since I first set my foot in this gorgeous country of Bulgaria! I never imagined to live here, it hadn’t even crossed my mind! And yet, here I am, and have been for a week. I had a very beautiful and detailed descriptions of my week in here but it seems that I have technical difficulties (aka the laptop doesn’t want to turn on anymore) and I’m dumb to not have backed up my files from there, including the blog posts I was planning on doing. Thankfully though, I had backed up the most precious of all – my photos! They mean the world to me, and I lost all of my photos once! So I make sure that I have at least them on my hard drive and keep some of them on the camera for a while.
Anyways, I’m here to tell you all about my move!
My flight from Dublin to London Heathrow left 25th of April. I had to spend the night at Heathrow airport as my flight to Sofia left around 8.30. The night was long and tiring (I kept a journal of it, too, which I didn’t send to myself like I normally do…well it would have been long and boring anyways so you’re in luck ;). Not having internet kind of sucked but at least I had my laptop where I had some movies and series to keep myself busy. However, I couldn’t concentrate so I just did other things although I can’t exactly remember what anymore.
When I was supposed to board on the plane, they told us it was going to be late. At that point I was so exhausted and weak, I couldn’t handle it anymore. My eyes were barely open, I was shaking and everything. I could not wait to get on the plane and finally get some sleep! Once I got on the plane, I fell asleep pretty much immediately, and woke up when they were serving a little breakfast tray. That gave me the energy I’ve been craving for, well that and sleep. I was resting my eyes even after breakfast until we had to land.
I had agreed with A that I would meet him by the baggage belt area. I got my luggage, and waited for him. And waited. And waited. He wasn’t showing up and I couldn’t reach him in any way! His flight from Paris was already supposed to be landed. Until I went outside, I saw a representative for his company, I went up to him and asked if he knew where A was. I told him that there might have been a chance of him missing his connection flight but I wasn’t sure of it. D, the representative, confirmed it, and said A got another flight that should arrive in the next couple of hours. He suggested if I’d go check in the hotel they had reserved for us and wait until we’d go back to the airport to get A. That was an excellent idea to me! I had about an hour to rest, freshen-up, call family and just hang out. On the way to the airport, D told me that had I come just 5 minutes later to him, he would have been gone! How lucky was I?
As the plane landed, and people started coming out with their luggage, A was nowhere to be found. However, I met A’s future colleague, whose plane landed later than A’s. D said he’d bring her to the hotel as well and would be back, I said that’s fine. I waited for A for nearly an hour until I see him coming out. I ran up to him, and give him the biggest hug! He was barely hanging on to his bag and he looked so miserable and exhausted! I knew he had had a day from hell! He lost his luggage, and had to check-in the electronics bag… but I didn’t care about that, all I cared about that he was in front of me in one piece! Had I lost him somewhere like his luggage got lost, I don’t know what I would have done!
D came to pick us up yet again, as I had forgotten to ask to change my money to the Bulgarian leva he took us to the bank to get it exchanged. He also showed us where we should go eat as well. After the money transfer, we got to the hotel. A freshened-up before we went for dinner. And we got the most delicious meal at Happy Bar & Grill! I can’t believe we spent only about 30 leva (€15/$20/£12) for two people, including 2 drinks each! What helped that it was right behind our wonderful Hotel Kabu - if you ever need to stay at Sofia for whatever reason, I’d sincerely recommend that hotel! It’s also quite cheap hotel for a night. I’m sure that they have Happy Bar & Grill in other places in Sofia, possibly all around Bulgaria, I’d give it a try in any case if possible!
After the meal we were ready to call it a day and finally able to sleep in a nice bed! Both of us slept like little babies.

I enjoy the simple little things in life, and waking up to a sunshine is one of the life’s beautiful little miracles to have. I especially love to see the sun rise. However, unfortunately I’m rarely awake to see that. Breakfast at Yantra Grand Hotel has been amazing! I especially love the little pastry things they have here for breakfast. And the yogurt is so delicious – haven’t tasted as delicious yogurt anywhere!
Enjoy the little things, the small details in life! :)
