Whitney, you will be missed!

In her memory, here are some more of my favorite songs by her. Let it be said how great Whitney’s career has been. Whitney was signed by Clive Davis in 1985.  She has won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards. Her album Whitney was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 million albums worldwide. To many she is remembered by her acting debut in The Bodyguard co-starring Kevin Costner.

It’s not right but it’s ok, reminds of late 1990′s, when this kind of style of music was a huge hit. Everyone seemed to be into it, even Destiny’s Child.

Same script, different cast is a song that features Deborah Cox as well. The song is in her Whitney: The Greatest Hits album. I used to love this song, still do…

Could I have this kiss forever, which features Enrique Iglesias, is another song from the Whitney: The Greatest Hits album. This was a song I could daydream about that certain someone, who would later be my significant other in my life..

New video: M.I.A

M.I.A is back with a bang! Yesterday, I was wondering why she was featured in Madonna‘s new single Give me all your luvin’. Now I notice M.I.A‘s latest track Bad Girls video. What’s funny is that both of these videos were uploaded on the same day. Coincidence? I personally don’t believe in coincidences. Perhaps it was a marketing technique.

When I first heard a piece of this song in M.I.A‘s Vicki Leekx’ mixtape, I was interested. For me it’s all about the beat, then comes the melody/singing, which can make it or break it for me. This song I could have on repeat.

Live fast. Die young. Bad Girls do it well.

Rumor mill: Christina Aguilera 5th album

Christina Aguilera is working on her 5th studio album, which should come out sometime this year, perhaps spring or summer of 2012. While not a lot is revealed of what the new album entails, some songwriters have confirmed working with her. Personally, I’m looking forward to this upcoming album as the previous album Bionic was… well, a flop. There are some great tracks in there but as a whole it  was weaker than I had hoped. My absolute favorite album still is Stripped, just because it was a raw album and she really showed her emotions. The songs she had been working on for such a long time, were now set free.

There are rumors and speculations going on what may or may not be included in her upcoming album. This sample below is one of them. If it will be in her album, I hope it will be a feature. Is that Ne-Yo singing? Even if it’s not, I somehow hear this being a duet with Christina and Ne-Yo. What do you think of the song?

Music + Emotions.

Singing has always been a way for me to deal with my emotions. I know I’m not the best singer, at all. When it’s for your private purposes, who cares really? Music in general has been a way of dealing with my emotions all this time. You could even say that music is my best friend – it’s there whenever I need, it has gone through the good and the bad with me, it hasn’t disappointed me, it hasn’t given away my secrets. Music is my everything.

When I was in my teenage years (gosh, that makes me sound old!), there was this one song that I could just bolt out of me. I love this woman, she is very special to me. Her Stripped album is the best album she has made in her career, simply because she stripped herself to the core and let her emotions out. It is a very raw album. I haven’t seen anything as raw from her since then – and it’s been nearly 10 years already!

Now, when I’m in that place, I find myself listening to the wonderful talent, Adele. She just gets my emotions going. The song below is a raw song to me, and each time I start to sing it, I end up crying. Tears just start falling down my cheeks. I don’t often listen to her because she is very melancholic with her music.

This is NOT a revolution in music!

It’s  one thing to translate a song from the original language to another one. This was the case back in the day, well at least in my country. A lot of great hits that I know in my native language, later I’ve found out that they are originally in English, German, Spanish or even in Italian. However, when the song is remade to a completely new one, I often think to myself “what were they thinking?!” Not in all cases, but in a lot of cases. There are some really great remakes out there. These days, it’s either remaking of an old song or sampling it. Especially the younger generations may not realize that a hit song by a certain artist is actually full of samples from old song(s).

Anyways, I liked the song below the first time I heard it. The video is a typical video for that time, and for this genre.. just let its rhythm take you away.

When I heard the new version of this song, I was taken aback. Why would you have to do remake of this song, and make it to a poppy dance song? It’s disgraceful! As I listened to the song over and over again, I started to like it… unfortunately! It is nowhere near as good as the original song but there is something about that.. I guess you could call it my guilty pleasure.

It is no surprise to me that Pitbull is part of this remake! Pitbull’s circles are quite small. In case you haven’t noticed, these days his features are usually with Enrique Iglesias, Nayer, Mohombi, Ne-Yo, Marc Anthony.. or is the fact that they sound alike these days? Then it’s the producer..

Tell me

I am so behind on my music posts, there is so much great music out there that I’d love to share with you! So often I think that I have shared it here, or forget to do that for one reason or another.  There are some songs that I listen to daily, there songs or artist I come by that I haven’t heard at all or in a very long time.

This coming song is one that I used to listen to daily but have gone to back burner for a few years, until a couple of days ago. There are some music that are attitude songs. You know the type that you just wanna go to a bar, have that eye contact with someone  and just throw dirty looks back and forth. To me, this that type of a song. Don’t ask me why.

Ms. Aguilera and Mr. Diddy would make a fine couple ;)
