Since last summer’s megahit On The Floor with Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez seems to have found the perfect recipe for making new hits. Well, if it ain’t broke, why try and fix it? Isn’t that what they say? So, she made another song with Pibull, Dance Again, continuing the style of music she started last summer.

The latest song is with Wisin y Yandel, who, like Pibull, started with reggaetton but seem to follow the trend of dance music. The video was uploaded yesterday. She seems to try to follow last summer’s hit with this one as well..

Your thoughts?

Personally, much to my own surprise, I don’t really care for the song. Not after hearing it the first time. It seems a bit… flat. While the free runners seem to be very cool, the video is kind of boring as well. This is just my personal opinion though. I’ve loved J.Lo since her first hit If You Had My Love and love her accent, her judging on idol… I guess you could say she is the exception to my rule.. she’s got that extra something..

New video: M.I.A

M.I.A is back with a bang! Yesterday, I was wondering why she was featured in Madonna‘s new single Give me all your luvin’. Now I notice M.I.A‘s latest track Bad Girls video. What’s funny is that both of these videos were uploaded on the same day. Coincidence? I personally don’t believe in coincidences. Perhaps it was a marketing technique.

When I first heard a piece of this song in M.I.A‘s Vicki Leekx’ mixtape, I was interested. For me it’s all about the beat, then comes the melody/singing, which can make it or break it for me. This song I could have on repeat.

Live fast. Die young. Bad Girls do it well.

What are your thoughts on it?

Video premiere: Madonna

This song is finally out. Give Me All Your Luvin’ features singer-MC’s M.I.A and Nicki Minaj. Needless to say the video is heavily influenced by the coming Super Bowl. The video doesn’t really open to me, and frankly, I don’t even know why M.I.A is featured on the song. Don’t get me wrong, I love her. I just don’t get why either of the ladies are in the song.

Are we still trying to idolize this woman that was once cool, even a trendsetter? Or is she passing the torch to the younger generation, like M.I.A and Nicki? What bothers me in the video the most, is why does she look she’s half her age?

The song will be in her upcoming album, MDNA which should hit the stores in March, 2012.

What do you think of the video or the song?

Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

If you followed American Idol‘s 10th season, like I did, you know that the level of talent at that particular season was amazing! Before The Voice and The X Factor came to US, American Idol has been the leading singing contest in the United States. When I was watching the show, I couldn’t believe the great artist participating that show. I hated seeing them all leave, one after another.

Even if you haven’t watched the show, you most likely know – or assume – that the winner gets a recording contract. This year the contract went to Interscope Records, and the finalists had the CEO of Interscope Records as their mentor, Jimmy Levine. The winner of this season was Scotty McCreery, a young country singer who kept true to his genre all throughout the show.

Out of the 13 finalists, 7 of them has snatched a recording contract (including Scotty McCreery).

  • Scotty McCreery got signed up by 19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville
  • Lauren Alaina is now signed to 19/Interscope/Mercury Nashville
  • Haley Reinhart is signed to Interscope
  • James Durbin is signed to Wind-up Records
  • Pia Toscano is signed to 19/Interscope
  • Stefano Langone is signed to 19/Hollywood Records
  • Casey Abrams is signed to Concord Records

That’s quite an accomplishment to have so many of the finalists to have a recording contract, it’s quite unbelievable really! Who were you rooting for? Whose album are you looking forward to the most? My absolute favorites were Casey Abrams  and Haley Reinhart!

Wrong Side of a Love Song

So many thoughts, so many ideas, so much to say, so many inspirations, so many great visuals, and with so much great music in this world.. sometimes it’s hard and overwhelming to keep up with blogging. Especially since I want to include a bit of everything. I know I’ve been catching up with music, and news on music. Please bare with me for the other things as well. My head can be a bit of a chaotic mess at times..

Anyways, I know this isn’t really Friday type of music. I just came across it, and truly liked it. The song is called Wrong Side of a Love Song  by a great singer from the UK, Melanie Fiona. Been listening to it a few times in a row now. Hope you enjoy it as well. Tell me your thoughts below on the comments :).

Where were you when I needed a friend
Thought I could be strong
Never knew I’d be so lost
A heart breaker, most of my life
Suddenly it all changed
The moment you left me
I walked off my life
I try to break through
But you said I was playing myself
What you gotta know about me
is that I can make this glory, hell

And I don’t wanna live without you
Cause I can hardly breathe without you
This is what it feel to be the one
Who’s never left behind
How did I become the wrong side of the love song?

Baby, I’m a mess
Out of every piece and part of me
You’re always the best
But it said I was leaving you here alone
But I didn’t mean it,
No, I didn’t mean it
Now I’m begging baby come home

And you got me singing
why you wanna make me cry
I’ll be thinking ’bout you
Got me dreaming ’bout you
every single day and night

Music crossover rant

Ok, so I’m confused. Music industry just seem to surprise me, fascinate me yet frustrate me to the fullest! First off, how come some singers become DJ’s out of nowhere? Since David Guetta came into the picture dance music, specifically house music, came to a turn. In Guetta’s early days, I have to be honest and say, I didn’t care for his music all that much. I thought it was great though because the dance industry needed to be more acknowledged more. However, when any genre, artist, or band becomes mainstream (lots of radio play, exposure in charts, huge hits) – ignoring the fact that it is great achievement for the artist/genre – can be dangerous. When things get big enough, everyone wants to do it, leading to it being the trendy thing of the moment. Also the fact that, when things go to mainstream, they become more commercial - how else would it sell? When it’s commercial, it sounds like any other artist. Now I realize this is generalizing and there are dangers to saying this but bare in mind this is my opinion. And, what about any other underground artist or band? Or real musicians?

Going back to David Guetta… being into a huge fan of dance music as well as house music – and having worked in the industry – he made house music cool, he made DJ’ing cool (although, when hasn’t it been cool?)! I’ve got nothing against that, at all. It just annoys me to the tee when everyone else wants to do it as well. In case you haven’t noticed, all the biggest hits at the moment are dance songs. I wouldn’t call it even house anymore, just poppy dance. The latest trend seems to be to mix hiphop with dance. Take for an example Nicki Minaj who is a female rapper, now one of the biggest rappers/artists out there at the moment, has collaborated with Guetta. I respect Nicki as a rapper a lot, the flow she has when she only raps is awesome, as soon as she starts to sing though, I lose my respect for her. She is not a singer, and the singing she does is very poor (did you see the American Music Awards from last year?). Nicki is just an example – David has had collaborations with nearly all the hottest singers at the moment. What a lot of people don’t know, is that he has not made his own music (perhaps as of recently but for the longest time he didn’t!), there was someone making the tracks for him, and that is now a Grammy winner, a Dutch DJ called Afrojack. (You know Beyonce’s Run The World (Girls) - the background is by Afrojack, and it was a hit before Beyonce made it even a bigger hit.) Around Christmas and New Year’s some artists showed their – poor –  DJ’ing skills, including Alicia Keys, Kanye West. I’m just tired of following trends, and for everyone else to follow trends as well. Would you jump off a cliff if everyone else did it, too? Where has our individuality and standing out (in that sense) gone?
The reason why I’m writing all of this, is because I came across a new artist, Azealia Banks. Kanye West played her 212 -song while he was behind the decks. When I first heard that song, I thought to myself it’s actually quite a good song. After learning that she actually wants to make more hiphop rather than house, well you can guess what I thought, great another hiphop-house crossover. Haven’t we heard enough? Come up with something original. Take a listen to the song below.

If you want to be a rapper, making hiphop music, then I think that’s what you should come out with. Mind you, I had to do a bit of research on her and found out that she was asked to be in this track. When I heard the original track, I immediately recognized the song! The song is actually by a DJ called Lazy Jay, entitled Float My Boat, and was a hit a couple of years ago. Azealia actually has another House song, called Liquorice. When listening to her earlier work, again, she is not a bad rapper. Unlike Nicki Minaj, she can sing too.

I’m just a bit confused as to which direction she wants to take in her music. What will her branding be? On her Twitter, she suggested she may have been signed by Kanye West himself. I’ll be curious how she will differentiate herself from the other artists, but especially how she will brand herself. What position will she take in the music industry? Time will only tell.
