Emeli Sande has one of those unique sounds to her voice. When I first heard of her music, at the time she was still up and coming, I thought there was something special and that one day, she’ll be on the charts. I’m happy she made it! (Not that the music on the charts specifies good music, it’s quite the opposite nowadays.) Over these past few weeks, this song has been on my playlist quite a lot.

Emeli has been in the background writing for music for the likes of Cher Lloyd, Alesha Dixon, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, Tinieh Tempah and Mutya Keish Siobhan (formerly known as Sugababes). Although she was raised in Scotland, she is of Zambian-English descent. Hence her intriguing looks.

Her debut album Our Version of Events was released early February 2012.

There’s a new Kat in town..

I’ve noticed that lately all I’ve been focusing and posting has been about Bulgaria and photographs. For the ones who enjoy music, like I do, I’ve been really lacking on that department. My excuses for that. I haven’t felt like I’m following much of what’s going on in the music industry. Partly because of I don’t have an mp3 at the moment, and just technology seems to fail me a little bit. I will try my best and update more music here as well. If you have any suggestions, resources, or any of that type at all – please feel free to tell me!

Kat Graham formerly known as Katerina Alexandre Graham was born in Switzerland to Liberian father and Polish-Russian mother. Graham’s father was a music executive. He was also godfather to two of Quincy Jones’ children. She was raised in Los Angeles. Now she is mainly known as the sultry Bonnie Bennett    in hit show The Vampire Diaries.

She started in the entertainment industry when she was six years old by appearing in various commercials. In 2002, she made her first television breakthrough. That same year, she wrote a song which was featured in a film.

She wanted to pursue a musical career shortly after. It wasn’t until 2007 that she had a breakthrough. She was featured on Will.I.Am‘s album Songs About Girls. In early 2012, she signed her first recording contract with A&M Octone Records. She had her first ever performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the end of May. She is currently recording her first album.

Until we’ll be able to get our hands on her first album, she has released her first single from her EP Against the Wall. I was attracted to this song simply because of the fresh beat. I haven’t heard such a beat before. The chorus is especially very interesting to me. What do you think of the song?

Since last summer’s megahit On The Floor with Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez seems to have found the perfect recipe for making new hits. Well, if it ain’t broke, why try and fix it? Isn’t that what they say? So, she made another song with Pibull, Dance Again, continuing the style of music she started last summer.

The latest song is with Wisin y Yandel, who, like Pibull, started with reggaetton but seem to follow the trend of dance music. The video was uploaded yesterday. She seems to try to follow last summer’s hit with this one as well..

Your thoughts?

Personally, much to my own surprise, I don’t really care for the song. Not after hearing it the first time. It seems a bit… flat. While the free runners seem to be very cool, the video is kind of boring as well. This is just my personal opinion though. I’ve loved J.Lo since her first hit If You Had My Love and love her accent, her judging on idol… I guess you could say she is the exception to my rule.. she’s got that extra something..

Out of date

It’s been a couple of months and I feel like I’ve fallen out of the wagon. Music industry moves so fast, it seems. I haven’t had the energy nor the will to look up what’s new, what’s hot, who’s up and coming, new artists – anything like that. This song, however, has been on my top  most played list. I had no idea they have a video of this song. The video seems very odd, and nothing to do with the song or the lyrics. It is one of those videos I kind of wish I wouldn’t have seen because then I can make my own video in my head.

What do you think? If you have any recommendations for me for what’s been going on over the past few months, please do tell me! :)

Whitney, you will be missed!

In her memory, here are some more of my favorite songs by her. Let it be said how great Whitney’s career has been. Whitney was signed by Clive Davis in 1985.  She has won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards. Her album Whitney was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 million albums worldwide. To many she is remembered by her acting debut in The Bodyguard co-starring Kevin Costner.

It’s not right but it’s ok, reminds of late 1990′s, when this kind of style of music was a huge hit. Everyone seemed to be into it, even Destiny’s Child.

Same script, different cast is a song that features Deborah Cox as well. The song is in her Whitney: The Greatest Hits album. I used to love this song, still do…

Could I have this kiss forever, which features Enrique Iglesias, is another song from the Whitney: The Greatest Hits album. This was a song I could daydream about that certain someone, who would later be my significant other in my life..

New video: M.I.A

M.I.A is back with a bang! Yesterday, I was wondering why she was featured in Madonna‘s new single Give me all your luvin’. Now I notice M.I.A‘s latest track Bad Girls video. What’s funny is that both of these videos were uploaded on the same day. Coincidence? I personally don’t believe in coincidences. Perhaps it was a marketing technique.

When I first heard a piece of this song in M.I.A‘s Vicki Leekx’ mixtape, I was interested. For me it’s all about the beat, then comes the melody/singing, which can make it or break it for me. This song I could have on repeat.

Live fast. Die young. Bad Girls do it well.

What are your thoughts on it?
